This new English performing edition by Dr. Harry N. Dunstan, Founding Artistic Director of the American Center for Puccini Studies is sure to CHARM!
Enchanting, Ravishing, Sophisticated, and always CHARMING, this lighthearted musical adaption of the world’s most popular fairy tale surrounds Cinderella with a wonderful palette of colorful character – a bumbling father, selfish sisters, a protective and exuberant Godmother, and a Charming Prince who trades identities with his chamberlain. Written in 1904 by one of the world’s greatest musical geniuses, Pauline Viardot, the story is told through the use of seven soloists and a pianist. Viardot’s sumptuous score weaves soaring melodies and voluptuous textures into an intimate fireside story that delivers an empowering message of INNER STRENGTH AND BEAUTY that is far ahead of its time!
Dunstan's mellifluous translation takes the focus away from "bibbidi bobbidi boo" and throws it back on Viardot's pioneering message that Cinderella is "perfect, whole, and beautiful" just as she is. Updated elements invoking the slap-stick of the Three Stooges and Larry David add hilarious high-jinks to this delightful, fun score.
Accessible to audiences of all ages, the score is flexible enough for large or small venues and is best served with piano accompaniment.
